Lauren A. Johnston is a Senior Research Associate (Economics) at Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), Berlin. She was a consultant to the World Bank and UNICEF in Beijing, and a Research Fellow in the Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Melbourne.
